Tv Shows
TV show are like movies but cut into episodes, and/or seasons
So, I seem to be getting into Netflix series lately. This is one of the shows that I got into. There are several things that I have to say about this show and that it is the brillant cast, and upping the drama in this. If you like Game of Thrones, this is like that except with Chinese and Mongols. The whole plot is the early years of which a young Marco Polo and his expriences under the court of Kubai Khan who is the founder of the Yuan Dynasty. And before anyone asks, I don't much about Chinese and Mongol history , so don't really ask me about the history at all. This is based on the stories of Marco Polo, although this is largely historical fiction. But I got to say that it is an amazing, I mean the scenary is beautiful, even when they are in the villages, it is amazing. They have done an amazing job with the sets and costumes as well as they are beautiful. I mean, if I were able to make dresses, I would definally take influence from this. I have to say that I love the cast in this and that they decided to do an mostly Asian cast for this, save for Marco Polo, his father and uncle. Each and every one of the actors are amazing. I wish more shows are like this. I would love to see more of this in our media. In fact, the President of Mongolia Tskhiagiin Elbegdorj actually awarded John Fusco and the creative an award for the postive portrayal and global presentation of Mongolian subject matter. The show stars Benedict Wong as Kubai Khan, Lorenzo Richelmy as Marco Polo, Zhu Zhu as Kokachin, Tom Wu as Hundred Eyes, and Remy Hill as Prince Jingjim. Each character has there own personality and motativation that you can get really into. Prince Jingjim is stern but he is very insecure due to him being educated in China and that he feels out of place. Kokachin is a wonderful person, espically when you find out her secret later on. Hundred Eyes is one of my favorite characters as he is no nonsense and he does not sugarcoat anything, espicallt to Marco Polo. Speaking of him, I didn't find him interesting at first, I mean it would seem that he only had one thing and that he is a great storyteller as well as he is honest to the Khan, despite literally everyone telling him that he should not and the Blue Princess tells him tha he should leave. But in Episode 5, he does get more interesting as he seems to start to get better at living in the society that he is surrounded by. In fact, I love that fact that he does knows some of the language ( as it was shown in the first episode that he was being taught the language) and that he learns more as time goes on as well as other skills. He is not good at them at first which I like as many stories would show that he was automatically good as this. But this show does not do that as well as not everyone trusts him at first. Hell, even the Khan says in the first episode that even though that Marco was his guest, he would have to earn his trust like everyone else. Marco Polo is a fish out of water and he has to adapt to everything. He is merely observing everything that is happening around him. Kubai Khan is awesome as most would portray him as if he was King Robart Baratheon, but no, he is extremely smart, a brillant military person, respects everyone despite either thier race and gender and that is really refreashing to see. The Queen is like her husband and she is very strong. She speaks her mind, and her husband does listen to her. There is a Consort who is a mother who would do anything for her daughter and she is a badass fighter. And her brother is a HORRIABLE human being. ( Yes, I did do the all caps, he is a horriable human being) as he has no heart towards anyone. The Empress of China is awesome as she is able to hold her own against anyone. The budget of this show is second only to Game of Thrones and they took full advantage of it and that they worked so hard on this. I do have to say through that the fight scenes are amazing and it shows that both men and women are able to fight ( physcally, mentally, and emotionally). I mean, there is a warrior princess who refuses to marry until a man wins a wrestling match against her, and her father agrees to this. And I have to say is watch the first martial arts scene with a woman and you would be amazed by this. I have to warn audience that it does take advantage of its TV-MA rating. It is like Game of Thrones with this. Yes, I keep comparing it to Game of Thrones, but sorry, it does have alot of the same things in this, which it is not a bad thing at all. It may be that it was how everything went back then, but again as I said before, I don't really know much about the history in this area. Anyway, this does have a lot of nudity , sex, and blood. Just to warn those who are not really comfertable with this. The only problem of this is the story does start out stale and that it took me a while to get into the story but it got more interesting as time goes on. I have to say, just please give this show a chance. And also I wanted to point out that there are now a lot of historical fiction shows out there in which I am happy about, but give your opinion on why this is popular and let's see what happens. Also at the time I have written this review, I have not seen the second season as I wanted to get my opions of the first season out of the way. When I watch the second season, I will do a review of it. Sorry, that I have not been updating lately, work and school had taken over my life to the point that only now I have been able to do a review. As soon as I can , I will have another one up soon. I am so sorrt that I have not been updating. Not only I was doing finals and moving back home, but I had started a new job and then my computer decided to act up on me, I have been busy. But now I have some time to do a review and there are going to be many more during this summer. But first: Capitan America : Civil War is awesome. I have the same opinion as everyone else, but I liked the fact due to the changes becuase Fox owns the X-Men and Disney owns most of Marvel, it would make sense that it was about the Avengers themselves instead of anyone who has powers. And Black Panther is awesome and I am excited for his movie.
I don't have anything to say about X-Men yet. Okay, Wynonna Earp...... This is one of my favorite shows. Normally, I dont watch Syfy shows but this is amazing. This is based on a comic of the same name but I haven't read it so I can't say if it is like the comic. But I love this becuase of the history ( even though it is more Supernatural, in which I am ok with) and that it does have to do with the supernatural makes me love it becuase it is new rules and yet it is the same. The Story is about Wynonna Earp, who is a desendent of Wyatt Earp, the iconic figure in Western History, and after a tragedy that made her an outcast and leave her hometown, she is forced to comeback and break the family curse in which she has to defeat 77 demons or Revenants that Wyatt killed. With the help of her sister, she takes them down, one by one. I love the character Wynonna as she tries so hard to break this curse and yet does not care what the town thinks of her. The only people she cares about is her younger sister, Waverly, and some friends if you could call them that at times. Dolls is mysterious but yet I kinda got an idea of what is going through his head. Espically in later episodes. I love Waverly and everything about her. She is a fantastic character to be written. She became my favorite character in this show. She is smart and not afraid to prove it even though there are some characters that they to dumb her down. Doc Holiday is in this and I have no words about him. I love him and hate him at the same time. And I think that kinda makes a really good character at certain times. But I think that it is one of those times where he is written well and you want to watch him to see what happens next. The effects are amazing, next to Supernatural espically for some scenes. Sometimes I wish this was a movie but yet I don't want it. I wish this would keep going. Please check this show out on Syfy , Fridays at 10. Thank you for your patience, and I promise there would be more reviews when I can be able to. This all is just my opinion and please let me know what you think in the comments below. This is Lady of the Movies , have a good day. Directed: Peter Ellis Story Written: Eric Kripke Aired: October 11, 2005 Plot: Dean and Sam invegate a Bloody Mary legend, in which several people have died. Only the victums seems to be targeted by one thing: a secret in which had someone had died. Sam, still having guilt over Jess's death, tries to get over it with this case to the point it might lead to his own death. Analysis: This is the episode where I think Sam starts to heal from the pain of his girlfriends death. When he offers himself, Dean snaps telling him that it was not Sam's fault and that it was the demon's, that Sam should blame the demon. For anyone who blamed themselves for a loved one's death, epsically in suicide, cna relate to this episode. Honestly the message in this episode is that it is never your own fault. things just happen and it may take a long while to get over it and heal from the event ( either be death, illness, etc) , but it will take baby steps to do so. With the Bloody Mary legend, I wanted to say it was clever to say there are so many versions of the legend that the boys would have trouble finding out that it was not what they thought it but put in an entirely different type of ghost. I like that the show will put in different legends, supersitions, mythologies, etc to show that the supernatural world is not just ghosts, werewolves, etc. Any way excellent writing, acting, and message in this episode ( Episode 3: Dead in the Water Directed : Kim Manners Written by Sera Gamble and Raelle Tucker Orignal Air Date: September 27, 2005 Okay, this episode is Dean-Centeric as it talks about how he feels about losing his mom at a young age. In this episode, several people have drowned in Lake Manitoc, Wisconsin and the boys meet a widow and her son who witnessed his father drowning. What they find that it was a vengeful spirit but what they find out is horrifying. Again, this is a Dean- Centeric episode ( which becomes more of a thing in later season. I'm not telling you yet heheheh) as it deals with him losing his mom and there is a little boy who lost a parent, although he was a little older than Dean who was four at the time. This is the episode where you see Dean talking to a kid who pretty much became a mute from the loss of his father. He developed some sort of bond with the boy, Lucas, who gives him pictures that helped the brothers find out what happened. Apparently, when a traumatic experience occurs, a kid or person can get psychic powers of some sort. This also shows how he was with Sam as a kid with how he treats Lucas. He doesn't talk down to him, it was more like to get him to talk in a way that almost works. When the brothers were forced to leave the town, Dean went back because Lucas looked scared before he left as if saying,' Don't leave. Something bad is gonna happened." Now with the comment about the Sam- Centeric episodes, it was orginally planned to be all about Sam but then changed it to both brothers as the show went on ( epsically around season 3 -4, and 10) Thats all from me See ya all later, Lady of the Movies Edit : November 11,2015 I am so sorry that I didn't put this up. I have been busy with midterms and work that I just go to bed exhausted at the end of the week. We are going to keep this going, depending on school life. Thank you so much for your patience!!! Supernatural Episode 2: Wendigo
Director—David Nutter Writers—Eric Kripke, Ron Milbauer and Terri Hughes Burton Original Air Date—September 20, 2005 (OVER TEN YEARS, GUYS!) Hey, Saiorse here! I’m all set up with my popcorn AND a night off (I’m lucky :) ), ready to review some Supernatural for you. I’ll be doing my best to keep things spoiler free, following LoM’s example. Okay, so I’m a bit rusty. It’s been about a year since I’ve seen this episode, so let’s take it from the top. The Previously Seen portion is a lot shorter than I’ve grown accustomed to. And I swear that they changed mikes mid-season, because both Jensen and Jared sound higher pitched than I’m used to. Could just be that I'm looking back, though. But there’s no complaints here, because it shows SPN’s growth as a program. I can’t track down the figures, but I remember that SPN’s starting budget was tiny. So look what they’ve accomplished! At the beginning, I have to say I miss the old-timey Americana of SPN’s MOTW episodes. Sure, there’s no major overarching storyline yet, besides the search for John—SPN has to build its own mythology. But I miss them going back to local stories a lot. The angels and demons kinda minimized that. The Wendigo is nice, because it makes a couple more appearances, mainly in the lore. There are some other one-off monsters that are really creepy! Good stuff. Another thing about the evolution of the series is how they’ve successfully managed to balance both brothers at the forefront. These first episodes (possibly the whole season—I’ll have to watch again) are very Sam-centric. And yeah, it’s his initial loss that drives the story forward, but the writing staff managed to create two fully realized protagonists where they only originally had one. Considering how hard I have to work developing a character when I want to write, it’s a fantastic job. This is really starting to set the stage for the things I like about SPN. Family, rock and roll, sarcasm—the lot. Even “saving people, hunting things”—guess which episode that’s from? You got it. But this is also before some of SPN’s characteristic gore gets started. A bit more family friendly than some episodes like My Bloody Valentine. So be warned—you will get sucked in. (If you're already a SPN fan and are looking to get someone else started -- say, parents?-- this is a good one.) And did anyone else catch that Jess and Dean shared the same birthday? Kripke! (shakes fist). Yes, I’m a total Dean girl. Shut up. It may have something to do with how we share approximately the same music taste. Nothing much to watch out for in this episode, just sit back and enjoy. Like Sam’s opportunity to drive the Impala, it’ll be over in a flash. This is the start of reviewing Supernatural. Again, this is out of love for the show. Episode 1 : Pilot ( good name for it ) original air date: September 13, 2005 Directed: David Nutter Written: Eric Kripke Plot: 22 years before the start of the series, Mary Winchester is killed by a fire that is started by something supernatural/ demon like. Her husband, John, manages to get their sons, then four year old Dean and then six month old Sam, out in time. This sparks something in John to find the killer while raising the boys himself. In 2005, Sam, now 22, is at Stanford , studying law and living with his girlfriend, Jessica. One night, Dean, now 26, breaks into their apartment and tells Sam that their dad has been hunting and has been missing for days. Sam leaves with Dean to Jericho , CA , after reassuring Jessica that he will back in time for his interview that will get him a full ride. In Jericho, 10 men have disappeared in over 20 years. The newest one goes missing. Thanks to the latest victims girlfriend, this leads to a woman named Constance who committed suicide after her children drowned in a bathtub on the bridge. And I am gonna it right there. Each episode has something that will make it awesome as they find ways to defeat the monster of the week. Analysis: This episode is my opinion one of the best introductions I have seen. It shows the backstory without it overshadowing it too much, the relationship between the brothers feel normal and the action is pretty good and creative. This episode show how the boys work, what they do to get the job done and this definitely mostly a show don't tell as well starts with a monster of the week routine. Sam is the smarter one of the two, as he went to college, and also hinted at be would much rather go to school then go hunting before he left to go to college. Although he seemed to be the more warrior type, he is but yet not. The rest of the show revels that. Dean is the warrior/solider type as he is also the fighter. He has not updates with the technology at the time but what makes up for it is his street smart as he can get out of a pair of handcuffs with a paperclip. The relationship between the brothers feel natural then most shows, and they make a great team. They pick on each other, repremind each other ( mostly Sam to Dean because of Dean disrespect towards the police), and they protect each other. Some of the quote that we know today are from this episode. Overall, this is a near perfect episode. It yeah it has it flaws, like the mystery and such. But this is a great episode to start the series on. Sairose is going to do the next episode in which countinues the monster of the week thing with a monster that barley anyone knows. See ya all later, Lady of the Movies Hi guys! This is Saiorse, hanging out with Lady of the Movies today. I just kind of invaded her house, and she dragged me into this. Sounds fun, though! Let's see where it goes. Hey everyone, so yeah! We looking at Daredevil the Netflix series that everyone is loving. Now before you ask if we read the comics, no we have not. Our only source of this from before was the movie with Ben Alfleck. Eh, I stumbled across it on Tumblr. YOU offered popcorn, which is why I"m in. Though I have to say, this title sequence-- the city made of blood? Is FANTASTIC. I did too. Although it did reminds me of Teen Wolf's opening, It has it's own thing and that blood is often connected to this series. Episode one is amazing and I think it is own of the best opening for any show. It introduces the characters, the dilemma and the backstory of Matt Murdock. It also shows the humble beginnings of the law firm he and his partner Foggy had started with buying their space and getting their first client within 24 hours ( thanks to Foggy giving one of the police officers cigarettes for said police officers mom. In which the cop and Matt said stop giving her cigarettes). Cigars. More expensive. Though I have to say, if I'm going to be a lawyer, Foggy may not be the best example of morality to follow. He gets stuff done, though. I like him. Kind of the awkward nerd/sidekick trope-- so naturally Matt must be the hero we saw taking down the trafficking ring. Good on you mate. Let's hope you don't get hurt. Oh, but by episode two... Crap, Matt! Can't you listen? The kid was a trap, Ackbar style. But I'm getting ahead of myself. I should shut up. Sorry I had to do that. And yeah I do agree that Foggy falls into the nerdy sidekick trope and Matt falls into the hero trope. But they back each other out.
As Matt is more grounded, quiet ,and runs on emotions at point ( although he is a vigilante), Foggy is more loud, logical and tries to tell Matt certain things he doesn't want to hear at times. But at the same time, they respect each others strengths and tries to help each other with their weaknesses. Like us, huh? Yup. Karen is their first client they have in which she was thought to have killed a co-worker. She was cleared on the charges, but since she doesn't have any money to pay them, she works for them for free. So, Matt and Foggy get their very first innocent client. Good job, boys- not many lawyers can boast a 100% success rate. And I think the fans get some shipping fodder that adds an extra dimension to the working relationship of Nelson and Murdock, Attorneys. I think a lot more could be done with Karen, though- I'm looking forward to seeing it. I think Karen is gonna have a lot more development throughout the first season. Okay, episode two. I was paying a lot more attention, in part due to the lack of popcorn (Ahem). As an intro, can I ask Jack Murdock to pay my tuition bills? That's a LOT of cash that he got from that fight. Any little bit helps, my man. Episode two adds a lot of exposition that the first episode lacked. I particularly like the boxing scenes, but I"m a little biased- I want to try that someday. We also get to see the results of Matt's 'activism' around Hell's Kitchen, introducing us to Claire, Matt's Angel of Mercy. Someone needs to patch him up when he screws up. Yeah, I like Claire and that she is questioning everything what Matt is doing. And she respects that he doesn't want her to know his secret ID to the point that she gives him the name 'Mike' after an ex who kept secrets. She's the first to see the darker side of Matt, though. Just like his dad he can take a punch- and throw one. "This is what displeased looks like," indeed. And are those HYDRA references? I'd say call SHIELD, but... it's a bit of a personal/personnel problem. This kind of makes sense since it was Marvel who created Daredevil and the character in the comics have ran into the Avengers several times. And yes, I know that I said I didn't read the comics, but thanks to Tumblr. They also make references I believe to the movies as this takes place in Hell's Kitchen which is in New York City. Damn. It looks like Jack isn't paying my tuition anyway. Since this is in NYC with the Avengers, can I talk to Tony Stark? (Cool hint-- there are actually MCU easter eggs scattered all over. Here's a source we found. http://www.bustle.com/articles/75932-26-daredevil-marvel-easter-eggs-references-you-may-have-missed-during-your-weekend-netflix-marathon ) Yup. Shouldn't there be a Stan Lee cameo? Something to look out for. Definitely. I like what I've seen so far, though- and I think that Daredevil is a much more realistic type of hero than might be seen in the movies. That realism comes at a cost, however-- Daredevil is rated MA, meaning don't let the little sibs watch it. They can caterwaul in their bedrooms, like LOM's sister. (<3 you, if you read this!) Thanks, guys! Talk to you guys later, maybe with episodes 3 & 4 !!! hello, I am Lady of the Movies, and I don't have a catchphrase.
